The Answer is Emotional Presence

As EFT therapists we are involved in what Alan Schore calls the “communicating cure.” The cure happens as we develop a strong therapeutic alliance so we can regulate and expand clients emotional experiencing.

It it out of our ability to access and expand emotion the co-creation of corrective emotional experiences emerges.

This means it’s important for us to maintain a confident stance, feeling sure inside of ourselves,
so we can be empathic and attuned.

Tips for developing this confident stance include:

  • learning more about attachment
  • getting plenty of EFT consultation
  • intentional tape viewing
  • developing shame resiliency
  • learning what position in the negative cycle you’re most prone to taking and developing ways out, and
  • practicing in session transparency

Remember what Sue often says, “The answer is emotional presence.”
